FutureWater and HKV have received approval of Nuffic to conduct the training ‘Multi-level capacity building on river morphology and flood risk using state-of-the-art open satellite data and processing tools’ in Myanmar. This training is a follow-up of previous trainings at Yangon Technological University for several universities and government entities held in 2018 and 2019 and the Dutch Risk Reduction-mission of September 2019.

Together with HKV we will receive funding via the Orange Knowledge Programme* (programme manager is Nuffic, funder is Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to focus this training on River Systems, Nature Based Solutions and Flood Risk Maps. In this upcoming training we will train officials of the Myanmarese ‘Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems’ (DWIR) in the use of satellite images for their water management issues. This will improve their understanding of the water system as well as increase the information they have on their water systems. By building capacity at DWIR to work with satellite data (in this case Google Earth Engine) the water management in the three regions we train will improve. This training is a multi-level capacity building training, which means that two of the highly-skilled participants of the previous trainings will join our team and gradually take over the training following the Train-The-Trainer approach.
