Martijn de Klerk (MSc.) is financieel manager en expert agrarisch waterbeheer bij FutureWater, met meer dan negen jaar ervaring in het coördineren en uitvoeren van internationale projecten op het gebied van water management, irrigatie en landbouw. Martijn heeft een masterdiploma Martijn behaalde zijn master Environmental Sciences aan de Wageningen Universiteit, waar hij ruime ervaring opdeed in het plannen en organiseren van projecten, en zowel als adviseur als wetenschappelijk onderzoeker werkte.
Zijn technische expertise omvat de verwerking en interpretatie van drone- en satellietbeelden, GIS-analyse, klimaatslimme landbouw en waterallocatie modellen, zowel op het niveau van een enkel veld als een geheel stroomgebied. Landen waar hij werkzaamheden heeft uitgevoerd zijn Nederland, Spanje, Mozambique, Kenia, Ghana en Zuid-Afrika.
De afgelopen jaren had Martijn een voorname rol als projectmanager van FutureWater’s flying sensor (drone) projecten in Mozambique, Kenia en Ghana. In deze projecten werkte Martijn als business ontwikkelaar om succesvolle lokale ondernemingen op te richten die een betaalbare drone-service aanbieden aan kleineschalige en commerciële boeren. De hoge resolutie dronebeelden, gemaakt door lokaal getrainde operators, tonen zones met gewasstress aan, ongeveer tien dagen voordat deze met het blote oog kan worden gedetecteerd. De integratie van deze tool met advieswerkzaamheden in het veld geeft boeren de mogelijkheid om preventieve maatregelen te nemen, het verlies van gewassen te verminderen en zo hun opbrengst en inkomen te verhogen. De beelden worden in enkele projecten ook gebruikt voor een innovatieve (water)productiviteitsanalyse in combinatie met gewasgroeimodellen.
