Dr. Gijs Simons is hydroloog en remote sensing expert met ruim 10 jaar werkervaring in het uitvoeren en leiden van internationale projecten op het gebied van watermanagement. Werkervaring is o.a. opgedaan in Cambodja, Egypte, Ethiopië, Laos, Madagaskar, Mali, Marokko, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nederland, Filipijnen, Roemenië, Spanje, Soedan, Uganda en Vietnam.

De technische expertise van Gijs omvat hydrologisch modelleren, verwerken en interpreteren van satellietbeelden, en GIS analyse met een grote verscheidenheid aan instrumenten (zoals SPHY, SWAT, WEAP, InVEST, ArcGIS, QGIS, PCRaster, Python, R, Google Earth Engine) voor studies op verschillende schalen: van een enkel landbouwveld tot hele stroomgebieden. Gijs is hoofdauteur en co-auteur van een groot aantal publicaties, zowel in wetenschappelijke vakbladen als technische rapporten. Verder heeft Gijs verschillende trainingscursussen en workshops ontwikkeld en uitgevoerd op het gebied van remote sensing, GIS en hydrologisch modelleren.

Gijs is momenteel de managing director van het FutureWater kantoor in Wageningen.
