Water Management Tools
For the project WatManSup three different Water Management Tools are considered: the physical model SWAT, the water allocation model WEAP and a multi-criteria analysis.
SWAT
SWAT, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool, is a river basin scale model developed to quantify the impact of land management practices in large, complex watersheds. SWAT is a public domain model actively supported by the USDA Agricultural Research Service at the Grassland, Soil and Water Research Laboratory in Temple, Texas, USA.
WEAP
WEAP is short for Water Evaluation and Planning System. It is a microcomputer tool for integrated water resources planning. It provides a comprehensive, flexible and user-friendly framework for policy analysis. WEAP is developed by the U.S. Center of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).
Multi-criteria analysis
Multi-criteria analysis includes all aspects of water management, from water availability to socio-economic aspects.
The first two water management tools, SWAT and WEAP, will be implemented by FutureWater and the multi-criteria analysis will be performed by people from the Institute for Environmental Studies.
